Helensville Show is Zero Waste and Smoke Free
The Early Days
The Helensville A&P Association held it’s first show in 1900 – and barring three occasions it’s been held every year since. The Helensville Show is easily the biggest event on Helensville’s annual calendar, and is the largest one-day show in the Royal Agricultural Society’s Northern District.
The Association was formed for the purpose of friendship and exchange of agricultural and pastoral ideas among the town’s settlers, and for agricultural competition among the farming and village community. The Helensville Show became an annual event with surrounding communities challenging for the right to be judged Champion of the Champions. As a result, the Show became an attraction for Aucklanders who traveled by train to the event.
Helensville A&P Show Today
Today our aims are still basically the same: to promote excellence in agriculture, to bring the country a bit closer to town, and to promote things rural, while at the same time bringing a bit of the town to the country.
Because the show has so much variety, there’s something for everyone. Our competition schedule covers horses, cattle, sheep, goats, pet dogs, pigs, woodchopping, calf club, pet lambs, cooking, horticulture, art and craft, painting, photography, garden produce, and needlework – plus we have a big children’s section.
Likewise there is heaps to see in our Trade area, with stalls ranging from the latest in agricultural equipment and lifestyle products through to plants, clothes and food and much more.
